Airedale Terrier Rescue and Adoption, Inc. is an all volunteer organization rescuing Airedale Terriers in 13 Midwest states and the province of Ontario. We stand ready to help any homeless Airedale and provide them with quality care and love while searching for their perfect forever home.
Are Airedale Terriers hard to train?
The Airedale Terrier is also highly intelligent and can be a quick learner, but true to his terrier heritage, he is often stubborn and unforgiving of harsh treatment. The way to his kingly heart is firm, consistent training – rough handling and punishment will get you nowhere fast.

Do Airedale Terriers bark a lot?
If trained early, the barking can be limited to certain situations. However, the Airedale is still full of energy and is best-suited for a family with an active lifestyle and a home where they have room to run in a securely fenced-in yard. The Airedale Terrier is a generally healthy breed.
Many wonderful Airedales are currently homeless. New Airedales come into Rescue every day. All Airedales currently in need of homes may not be pictured here. We occasionally get requests from groups or individuals to help them advertise Airedales or mixed ‘Dales on a private basis.

What did the first Airedale dog look like?
The first Airedales looked completely different from the Airedales of today. They were originally known as the Waterside and Bingley Terriers, descended from the now extinct black-and-tan type terrier and mixed with Otterhounds to help develop the Airedale as a better swimmer to hunt otters in the rivers and rats on land.
Do airedale terriers shed?
Most terrier breeds are very healthy dogs and the Airedale Terrier is no exception. Despite the short, wiry wavy and dense outer coat and the thick, woolly undercoat shedding can be minimized with the Airedale Terrier with regular stripping, a process of plucking the long, dead hairs from the coat.

However, there are Airedales that excel in fly ball, obedience, agility, hunting, search and rescue, police and therapy work. You as the owner, just have to learn what motivates your dog. Many people are drawn to an Airedale because of their appearance. Well groomed, Airedales are truly stunning.
