What is a golden retriever known for?​

The Golden Retriever, an exuberant Scottish gundog of great beauty, stands among America’s most popular dog breeds. They are serious workers at hunting and field work, as guides for the blind, and in search-and-rescue, enjoy obedience and other competitive events, and have an endearing love of life when not at work.

Are there any health problems with Golden Retrievers?​

As with any purebred dog, Golden Retrievers have their share of health problems. Some health problems that a golden can be prone to include: Cancer, Hip & Elbow Dysplasia, Cataracts, Epilepsy, Hypothyroidism, Heart Disease, and Skin Conditions like Allergies.
When did the first golden retriever dog come out?
Golden Retrievers were first shown in England at the Crystal Palace show in 1908, and were listed as Flat Coats (Golden). The first three dogs of any breed to achieve the AKC Obedience Champion title, first available in July 1977, were all Golden Retrievers. The first (Ch. Moreland’s Golden Tonka) was a bitch, the others were males.

What health problems do Golden Retrievers have?​

Goldens are generally healthy dogs, and responsible breeders will screen their breeding stock for health conditions including elbow and hip dysplasia; eye conditions such as juvenile cataracts, pigmentary uveitis, and progressive retinal atrophy; and certain heart diseases, including subvalvular aortic stenosis.

What breeds make up a mini golden retriever?
The breeds used to create the Mini Golden are usually either a Golden Retriever and Poodle, or a Golden Retriever and a Goldendoodle (Golden Retriever x Poodle mix).
A Mini Golden Retriever generally lives 12-14 years. Dwarfism does occur in Golden Retrievers, which results in a smaller Golden Retriever and can also cause additional health concerns. However, a Dwarf Golden Retriever is not the same as a Miniature Golden Retriever.
Although some mixed dog breeds can “win the genetic lottery”, most will inherit the potential for health issues from one or both of the parent breeds. For Mini Golden Retrievers, these could include elbow dysplasia, heart issues, eye disease, and hip dysplasia.
