What is a Dapple Dachshund?

A dapple Dachshund is a Dachshund with a dapple pattern on its coat. Dapple puppies are created when a solid colour Dachshund is bred with a dapple Dachshund. The markings look unusual and distinctive, which is why the dapple coat is so popular. But, before you set your heart on a dapple Dachshund, there’s more you need to know!
What are the different types of dachshunds?
Also known as the Sausage Dog, the Dapple Dachshund can be found in two sizes (standard or miniature), three coat types (smooth coated, long haired or wire-haired), and a variety of coat colors including black and tan, black and cream, chocolate, chocolate and tan, and more. The pattern of spotting is also known as dapple or merle.

Are double dapple dogs dangerous?

For those that are unaware of what that means, we are about to clarify it for you… As beautiful as they may be, these dogs are most likely a result of unsafe breeding, and are prone to health risks. What is Double Dapple?
Why choose a dapple Doxie?
WELCOME TO DAPPLE DOXIE!! We have chosen the Miniature Dachshund as our special breed because of the independent, irresistible appeal and classic beauty. At Dapple Doxie, we have been working for years to produce beautiful quality dachshunds that are pleasing to the eye and correct to the standards.

Dachshunds come in two sizes: standard and miniature. They’re also available in three coat types: smooth, wirehaired, and longhaired. All Dachshunds have only one color. A pattern in another color, like the dapple, can be superimposed over the base hue. The dapple design can vary from a huge smattering of splashes to one single spot.
Dapple in Dachshunds is the same in appearance, and genetically, as the “merle” found in Collies, Australian Shepherds and some other breeds. Strictly speaking, it is a pattern, rather than a colour. It appears like a slashing or swirling of paint over all normal Dachshund colours. Some dappling is very bright and noticeable.
What does a double dapple dog look like?
If dappling appears on the face, the eyes might be an icy shade of blue. These characteristics can be quite striking, and some breeders will try to create double dapple puppies for their uniqueness.
