Is Endolimax nana dangerous to humans?

The Endolimax nana it is an intestinal amoeba that exclusively parasitizes the intestine of humans. However, it is a non-pathogenic commensal parasite, which means that it does not cause considerable harm to humans. The distribution of this amoeba is cosmopolitan, but it is more likely to be found in warm and humid environments.
What are the characteristics of Endolimax nana trophozoites?
E. nana trophozoites stained with trichrome. Endolimax nana trophozoites measure 6–12 µm and have a single nucleus with a characteristically large, irregularly shaped, blot-like karyosome. The nucleus lacks peripheral chromatin. Their cytoplasm is granular and often highly vacuolated and may contain inclusions of bacteria.
How many nuclei does an Endolimax cyst have?
It has a single nucleus sometimes visible in unstained preparations and its cytoplasm has a granular appearance. The cyst is the infectious form of Endolimax nana, its shape is spherical and its size ranges between 5-10μm. During maturation, fully developed cysts contain 4 nuclei, although some can have as many as 8 nuclei (hypernucleated forms).

What is the morphology of Endolimax nana trophozoites?

Morphology of Trophozoite. Trophozoites of E. nana measures from 6-12μm. Motility is sluggish with blunt hyalin pseudopodia. In a permanently stained preparation, the nucleus exhibits a large karyosome with no peripheral chromatin on the nuclear membrane. Endolimax nana trophozite and cyst morphology. How do you diagnose Endolimax nana parasite?
Endolimax nana parasite (Trophozoite and Cyst) Laboratory diagnosis is made by finding the characteristic cysts in an iodine stained, formolether concentration method or by detecting the characteristic trophozoites in a wet preparation or a permanent stained preparation.
What is the route of transmission of Endolimax nana?
The route of transmission is through the ingestion of food or drinks contaminated with amoeba cysts. Although it does not cause disease like other amoebae, cases of chronic diarrhea, hives, constipation, rectal pain, vomiting, among other conditions have been reported in some patients contaminated with Endolimax nana.
