Each mL of Pyrantel Pamoate Oral Suspension contains the equivalent of 50 mg of Pyrantel Base (as Pyrantel Pamoate). How many milligrams of pyrantel pamoate do I give my Cat?​

An 8 lb. cat is around 3.63 kg. So 20 mg x 3.63 kg = 72.6 mg of Pyrantel Pamoate. According to Drontal (the prescription wormer), an 8 lb. cat would receive 72.6 mg (1 pill). A 25 lb. dog would receive 56.8 mg (11.36 kg x 5 mg = 56.8 mg), while a 5 lb. dog would receive 22.7 mg (2.27 kg x 10 mg = 22.7 mg).
Can a 12 year old take pyrantel pamoate?
Directions Adults and children 2 years to 12 years of age may take this product. Take the dosage in Table I according to the body weight of the individual treated. Do not exceed 4 teaspoonful (20.0 mL) of Pyrantel Pamoate Oral Suspension.
Can you take pyrantel pamoate with milk?
It may be taken alone or with milk or fruit juice. Use of a laxative is not necessary prior to, during or after medication. Each mL of Pyrantel Pamoate Oral Suspension contains the equivalent of 50 mg of Pyrantel Base (as Pyrantel Pamoate).

What are the side effects of pyrantel 10 mg?​

Pyrantel is usually given as the embonate or pamoate in a single dose of 10 mg/kg, and adverse reactions rarely impede treatment. They include gastrointestinal disturbance (nausea, anorexia, abdominal pain, diarrhea), headache, and vomiting, which are usually mild but can occur in up to 20% of patients.

Is pyrantel pamoate safe for dogs?​

Pyrantel pamoate is poorly absorbed through the gastrointestinal tract and is a very safe way to treat hookworms and roundworms in dogs and cats. Pyrantel rarely results in side effects but vomiting is possible. Pyrantel is safe for use in pregnant and nursing pets.
